The cool folks over at Kitchen Play invited me to participate in the campaign "29 Ways to Leap into Jarlsberg Dip" and I graciously accepted. The Jarlsberg Dip is the newest product from the company (Jarlsberg USA) who has dominated the specialty cheese market in the United States for over 45 years, I know I'm a fan. I was charged with the responsibility of taking an already great product and doing one better by creating a fun recipe showcasing its versatility and great flavor. When I first read the description of the product, cheese, mayo, and red onions the next thought that popped into mind was my husband's favorite kind of a Philly Cheesesteak, one that is slathered in mayo in addition to your standard cheese and onions. Philly Cheesesteaks are definitely a family favorite as we reside just an hour outside of Philadelphia and are fortunate to indulge on a fairly regular basis. But this wouldn't be any Philly Cheesesteak. How does Philly Cheesesteak stromboli sound? Not convinced...well there's only one way to find out. Take that leap and experience it for yourself.
Jarlsberg Cheesesteak Stromboli
Serves 4-6
Ingredients:
1 pound pizza dough (store bought or homemade)
1 container Jarlsberg Dip
1 large green bell pepper, seeded, and cut into thin strips
1 medium onion, sliced
8 oz flank steak, seared to medium and cut into strips
salt and pepper to taste
Cooking Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Roll dough out on a floured surface into a rectangular shape and transfer to a rimmed baking sheet. Spread Jarlsberg Dip on the pizza dough starting in the middle and working toward the outer edges. Layer the onion, pepper, and steak on top and season with a bit of salt and pepper. Fold over the shorter side edges of the dough first than using the opposite sides roll the dough towards you creating the signature tubular shape. Brush the outside of the stromboli with a little olive oil and bake for approximately 25-30 minutes.
The Verdict:
Positively sublime, my husband was more than impressed as was my father who popped by for an impromptu visit shortly after I pulled it out of the oven. I was really impressed to see how the dip's flavors mimicked that of the iconic Philly cheesesteak and was an even better compliment to this stromboli. Perfect for a quick weeknight family dinner, guests will love it and especially the kids minus the green bell peppers of course.
